Chapter 1: A legend is re-born

In the dead of night in a baron mountain region there’s a heavy storm with rain and lighting, thrashing the mountain with little damage to the area. And up in the dark storm a blue swirls formed, and emerged a dragon form the blueness.
This Dragon looked mechanical crossed with biological; he had two red blades like claws on each wing and a red clamp like claws on the end of its tail. It was black with red strips and blue eyes.
The dragon glided down onto the mountain and landed so hard it shock the ground. He looked around and found a cave to stay, inside had clusters of crystals that glowed in blue, red, green and purple. The dragon cleared away some of them so he could lie down, and soon went to sleep.

After some time he was still a sleep when a shadowy figure came in to the cave that didn’t make much sound. The creature walked up to the dragon as he slept, it showing it’s teeth when to it’s head about to attack the dragon, but unknown  to the creature that in the shadows a claw like thing was creeping up on it, then *CLAMP* grabbed the creature around the neck.
“Uhhh!” it screamed, struggling to get free of the dragons tail clamp.
The black dragon opened his eyes and got up to look at the creature.
“Let me go.” it said, it was a dragoness, slightly smaller then black dragon. She was purple with light blue underbelly and some light blue in her wings. She had an arrow tip tail and golden talons.
“What were you trying to do?” he asked her.
“What you think, I was getting you before you killed me?” she said, as she tried to struggle to get free and then the black dragon, as releasing her from his grip.
“You must be mistaken me for someone else.”
“What? What are you playing at?” she said as she walked over to the crystals, “But I’m keeping an eye on you. Uh!” she collapsed in pain and the light of crystals revealed lightning bolt burns and bleeding bite marks on her back and wings.
“Your hurt.” he said, as he got up and walked over to her.
“Stay back, don’t touch me!”
“You’re not in any position to pick a fight. I think I can help, but it mite hurt a bit.” the black dragon placed his hand like paws on some of her injures, she flinched in pain. He closed his eyes and his paw glowed light blue, and the dragoness felt a stinging sensation with sudden relief. He stepped back.
“Do you trust me enough to finish the rest?” the black dragon asked, as the dragoness looked at the healed wounds.
“Fine I will for now. Get me a red gem cluster.” she asked, and the black dragon grabbed the gem with his tail clamp and gave it to her.
“So do you have a name?” asked the black dragon, as he continued to heal her wounds.
“My name is Dawn Mist. Arh! And yours?” said the dragoness, as she took a bite of the cluster and ate it.
“I don’t have a name. I don’t even know if I’ am from this world.”
“Can I give you one so we can socialise better?”
“Sure, why not?” he replied and grabbed Dawns wing and healed the wounds, “You’ve dislocated your wing and it’s going to hurt a lot when I pop back in.”
“Be quick… *CRACK!* AAAHHHH! …about it. Owe!” cried Dawn, when he fixed her wing. “You looked like a ‘Shadow’ when I first saw you, how about that. Arh!”
“That works with me, Dawn.” He had finished healing her.
“Thank you and I’ am sorry for trying to kill you.” She replied, as she stretched. “Your not one of the bad dragons.”
“So how do you know I’ m not one of them.” asked Shadow and went back to his side of the cave.
“Because there are not so social and wouldn’t wast time with killing there victims. So did you mean by you’re not from this world?”
”Well I don’t remember. I got all this knowledge, but don’t know how I attained it.” Shadow said
“Nothing at all?”
“Nothing but an image of a black wide sword with a red strip.”
“The Shadow Blade?!” Dawn said sitting up eagerly
“You know something about this.” asked Shadow, shocked to hear this.
“Yes, but the legend said it vanished for all of time.”
“Tell me what you know about it, please.”
“Well the origin of the Shadow Blade began with Ashkore the child of two legendary dragons, one was purple and the other was black. His parents had been poisoned with dark power. And even when they had over come the dark powers, it was still a part of them and it got past on to there child. Ashkore was a black metal dragon of darkness (the first of his kind), but he was a good dragon and tamed the darkness of his soul to be his ally, and he was able to master more then one element (only known to be done by purple dragons like my self).
Even though he was good, the elders feared he would be corrupted by power like the first purple dragon that became the Dark Master and they became reluctant to teach how to master his elemental powers. So he made them a deal, that he would go into exile exchanged for his training. Ashkore was 18 years when he left with all his training of every elemental technique competed, he wondering the world an out cast to any one who knew him.
Two years pasted Ashkore came across a war between felines and wolfs kind and the reason long forgotten. And with his powers brought peace to the two races, and they made him there ruler. Ashkore taught them many wonderful things and he protected them, and they gave him a home and grew attached to them.
Ashkore had only had one fear of death, so he got his people to make the Shadow Blade out of his metal skin, claws and teeth that he lost and regrown in combat. Then Ashkore enchanted it so when died, his soul would be live on in the sword and always carried it with him.
When he did die, the sword disappeared until now.”
“So Ashkore is part of me and share his powers with me?” asked Shadow
“I guess so, well the storm is dieing down.” said Dawn, as she got up. “Can you please come with me to the electricity temple, the elder will want to meet Ashkore’s reincarnation.”
“Well you got me interested in this world now. But aren’t you going wait for the thunder storm to pass?” asked Shadow, as he got up as well.
“It never stops around here, but it dies downs a bit.” replied Dawn, as she walking out of the cave.
“Ah, make sense to have the temple here.” said Shadow, as he followed her.

The two left the cave on foot the sky still filed with lightning,
“What’s the rush, Dawn?” asked Shadow, trying to keep up the almost running. “I don’t to get stuck by lightning again. And the black dragons could be coming.”
Then suddenly a black dragon pounces on Dawn and held her down.  “Nice work, Verlyn will be pleased.” He said to Shadow,
“Let her go!” replied Shadow,
“Take it easy we can share the reward.”
“I said let her go!” and Shadow grabbed the dragon and pulled him off Dawn.
“What are doing traitor.” And took a bite out off Shadow,
“Got ya!”
Then an lightning bolt came crashing towards them and Dawn shielded her self with her wings. *Crack, boom* Dawn lowered her wings and opened her eyes.
“What happened?” asked Dawn, and saw Shadow still standing and the black dragon was on the ground twitching with paralyse.
“I used my metal skin as a lightning rod to divert it into the ground and through him.” replied Shadow, “As long you stay under my wing you’ll be safe.”
“Come on then.” Said Dawn, and took point.

“So guessing from what you’ve told me you’re going to master the elements? And what we just saw it’s a dangerous destiny.”
“Yes, like every other purple dragon.” said Dawn, in shy tone.
“You don’t seem to thrill about it?” said Shadow, and getting struck by lightning at random times.
“Being a rare purple, it not always fun.” replied Dawn, “Ever since I was an egg I’ve been in mortal danger.”
“Just because you can master more then one element?”
“Not only that, a purple dragon has two paths that we can choose. One is to bring hope and maintain piece of the world, or to be corrupted by the power causing chaos and bring destruction to the world.”
“Sounds ruff, but you must have a good child hood.”
“Sort of I guess, but I was moved around a lot. Never had a long term friends, since they were in as much danger as me. Now I’ am 18, I have to do the same as other purple dragons before me.”
“Sounds ruff. I think were at that electricity temple place.”

They were standing before an ancient stone temple, with metal lightening rods all over the place. The two walked the door.
“So how to get in now?” asked Shadow, looking around.
Then suddenly the door opened slowly, and an old yellow with grey lighting bolt patches, dragon was standing there.
“Who is he, I only saw you coming purple dragoness?” he asked, not to happy to see Shadow
“I just met him in a cave, he helped me, master.” replied Dawn, and bowed.
“Don’t mind me asking but I was with her the whole time. How you not see me, master…?” asked Shadow.
“Voltaren and I saw her in my latest vision during my sleep. Wait a minute! Why am I talking to a black dragon? Why did you bring him here? You can’t trust them!” asked Voltaren, staring at Dawn.
“What’s he talking about, Dawn?” asked Shadow, not making much sense to him.
“I’ll explain latter Shadow, let me do the talking. Voltaren, I know that I shouldn’t of but I don’t sense anything evil in him, and he could have killed me when he caught me when I tried to attack me but didn’t. And I believe he is the reincarnation of Ashkore.” said Dawn, and it when relatively quiet for a minute.
“Shadow I want you to show me two elemental breaths.” said Voltaren, Shadow turned his head and breathed Fire on a rock it red hot then breathed lightning and shattered it. “OK it proves that you’re not like other black dragons and Ashkore’s reincarnation. But it doesn’t mean I trust you yet. Now I’ll show you two to your rooms and well settle this in the morning.”
Voltaren lead them down a hallway with many doors, dragon statues and glowing rocks. They left Dawn in a room at end of the hall, then Voltaren lead Shadow to a prison cell close by. “Is this for the safety of the other here?”asked Shadow, as he entered the cell willingly,
“Exactly, I will determine you fate tomorrow as I decide if your trust worthy or not.” Said Voltaren, as he locked the cell and took the key with him.

******

Later that night the lightning storm picked up, it woke up Dawn who was barely asleep in the first place. She was shivering, and flinched with ever lightning crash. She got up and walked out of her room.

Shadow was sound asleep until he heard his door open and closed and foot steps, he lifted his head to see who it was.
“Can I sleep with you? I don’t want to be alone during this storm.” asked Dawn, standing in front of him behind the bars.
“*Yawn* Sure, any where you want.” Replied Shadow, suddenly *CRACK* another lightning strike that scared Dawn. “Not a big fan of lightning?”
“Uh…um…ah… N-not get the wrong idea...” said Dawn, as Shadow got up and went to the bars “... yesh when I was younger I was stuck by lightning and I hope that I will over come my fear with training here.”
“Isn’t that cutie. Not as tough as you make yourself to be.” This caused Dawn to blush.
”While you’re here can you tell me about Voltaren’s seeing things in his dreams and what with the black dragon subject?” asked Shadow, as he lay down against the bars.
“Some dragon’s have the ability to see glimpse of the past, present and future in visions while sleeping, but not everyone can have them nor understand them.” Answered Dawn, “And with the black dragons. When a dragon goes or turns bad they turn black due to the darkness that corrupted them. *Yawn* Good night.” And despite the storm she fell asleep next to Shadow.

******

In the morning Voltaren entered Shadow’s room where he discovered Dawn and Shadow sleeping together. “Ahem!” he coughed, Shadow responded and woke up, and when he saw Voltaren he got up.
“It’s not what it look like. She couldn’t sleep with storm…” said Shadow calmly,
“Its fine Shadow, it just proves that you can be trusted.”
“It dose?”
“You could of have killed her and the rest of us last night, but you did not. These old bars wouldn’t have held you back. So for now you can stay, but I’ll be keeping an eye on you.” Then Voltaren open the cell to let him out,
“Thanks Voltaren, and are you sure it alright she was sleeping in here?”
“Well if a dragoness around my age showed up in my room, and asked to stay because she was scared. I wouldn’t pass it up.”
“*Yawn* Good morning.” Said Dawn, as she rolled on her back and stretched out. And then she noticed Voltaren, and then got up as fast as possible. “It’s not what it looks like Master! We didn’t do anything…”
Voltaren rased his paw to tell her to stop talking for the moment and said
“It’s alright Dawn, Shadow has explained everything. Now come on you two, breakfast then we start your training.”

******

And he lead them down the hall way to a big dining room filled with dragons of varies ages and sizes that look smiler to Voltaren eating at metal tables.
“Students I like your attention!” said Voltaren in a loud voice, and they stoped eating and looked at them. “The purple dragoness, Dawn has arrived last night and is here to master electricity on her journey to master the elements. And she has brought a friend Shadow…”
“He’s a black dragon!” said a dragon, and the whole room was in an up raw.
“Master well’s be murdered on our beds!” said a dragoness.
“SILANCE! He is no conman black dragon; he is the reincarnation of Ashkore. So you’ll have to live with Shadow hanging around, so make them feel welcome. As you were.” There was some chattering amongst them as Voltaren show them to his table and with three bowls; they sat down at the table. Shadow had look and smell of what was in the bowl, it was filled with what appeared to be raw mountain goat meat.
“Now since your new here you need to know we’re constantly are training. That means we learn to cook our own food with electricity, like so.” Said Voltaren, he picked up his bowel and breathed electricity in to it. The air was filled with the aroma of cooked meat, Voltaren then picked up one and ate it. “Now you try, Dawn.”
Dawn picked up her bowl then breathed lightning into her bowl. Her meat was cooked but slightly burned.
“Not to bad, now you try Shadow.”
Shadow picked up his bowl then breathed lightning into his bowl, and cooked his food like Voltaren’s.
“Excellent Shadow, not many can do so well for the first time.”
“Don’t think so, think I must doing something wrong?” said Shadow,
“But you cooked it perfectly.” Said Dawn,
“Then how come my breakfast has a pulse?” asked Shadow, and the three of them had a closer look at the bowel. And there was a heart beat coming from the bowel.
“Well this is a new one.” Said Voltaren, shocked to see this.

******

After breakfast Voltaren lead them to one of the dojos, “OK you two, I’ll be personally teaching you with my class.” Said Voltaren, as they entered, they were greeted by a dozen young Electric dragons that bowed.
“As you were class. Now due to our new students, Dawn and Shadow. I thought it would be good so do some revision followed by the lightning control test.” And with a stomp of is tail a bunch of dojo dummies made of straw stuff in sacks and shaped like various animals marched out by magic.
“Now when pick one and practice. Shadow, Dawn, I’ll show you the basics.” Said Voltaren, as 3 dummies followed,
“You may of mastered breathing electricity, but I’m going to really test you.”

*******

Meanwhile down on the side of the mountain, a couple of the students were walking around, “Heheheh. Won’t we get in trouble, Flash?” asked the young dragoness, as she started to kiss her boyfriend.
“Don’t worry, every is too worried about that black dragon to notice use gone, Nema.” He said, as the made out with her, and then started to get darker.
“Who turned out the light? Ohhhh!”
Stomping towards them was a giant earthly creature with a mouth full of crystal like teeth, they were long shape. The couple tried to electrocute it but it was unfazed by the electric attacks.
“Let’s get the hell out of here!” shouted Nema, the two try to fly for it, but the creature took one swing at them and knocks them right out the sky.

********

After a while of teaching, “OK, I think you two are ready for a demonstration, class clear the ring.” Said Voltaren,
“Well ladies first.” Said Shadow, as he got out of the way.
“OK, here goes nothing.” Said Dawn, as went to centre of the dojo were the dummies gathered.
She started off with shooting an lightning ball at the dummies that exploded on contact that sent them flying all over, “Good executed perfectly, Dawn.” Said Voltaren,
Next jumping on the tip of her tail and started spin like a top followed by breathing lightning around her spinning body and knocked all the dummies out that tried to attack her, “Very good.”
“I don’t think I got the spin right.” Said Dawn, before falling over with dizziness, some of the students help her out,
“My turn then, can you get these things to move around.” asked Shadow,
and the dummies ran all over the ring, Shadow breathed lightning to one of the dummies and it jumped from one to next until he got all of them. And with a swing of his head thrown all of them against the wall that borak them all but one. The last one tried to run, by Shadow shot a bolt of lightning at it that home in on the dummy where ever it ran, before shattering it into flaming pieces.
“For a black dragon, your very good.” applauded Voltaren, and the rest of the class joined in, “Good job you two. And I thought only purple dragons, could master electricity it so quickly. I’m starting to believe that you might just be the reincarnation of Ashkore.”
Suddenly there was a big crash, which shook everything in the temple.
“By the Ancestors, everybody get out!” Shouted Voltaren, as the place started to fall to pieces.

Out side electricity temple, the dragons evacuated to find the causes of the destruction. The giant earthly creature was bashing on the temple and the electricity dragons where flying around and attack it with little effect.
“What the hell is that?” asked Shadow, as he dodging an electricity dragon thrown in his direction by the creature.
“It’s an Afanc. It’s a creature made of clay so our electric attacks will have no effect. Verlyn has really gone all out to be rid of us.” Said Voltaren, sounding very worried as he watched the Afanc,
“If it’s made of clay then me and Dawn can turn it into crockery.”
“That won’t work the Afanc is earth and water. Just the two of use wouldn’t be enough any way.” Said Dawn, then the Afanc saw Dawn and changed its target. The Afanc took a swing at her, she flinched and shielded her self with her wings.
“I think we have no choice in not fighting this Afanc.” Said Shadow, Dawn open her eye and she saw Shadow holding the Afanc’s fist back. “I’ve got an idea but you have to lead this lump if pottery clay away for m the temple.”
“OK.” Replied Dawn, as she got out of the way and Shadow let go of the fist that went crashing into the wall, then Shadow and Dawn took flight and join the attack against the Afanc with a bombardment of fire that didn’t phase it as it cased after Dawn.
“Dawn focus your attack on the spots where I attack.” Shouted Shadow, when they lead the Afanc away, Shadow dove under it and Dawn followed with all there power breathed fire on the Afanc’s leg. The Afanc screamed with pain as its leg hardened and cracked under the intense heat of the two dragons.
The Afanc tried to move and broke its leg off in the process,
“We did it!” said Dawn, as they flue out of the way,
“Don’t celebrate just yet. It got 3 legs left.” Replied Shadow, then suddenly the Afanc caught Shadow’s tail in is teeth. Shadow tried free him self by attack its face with a combo of slashing of his claws with an fire attack, but it simply swung it head and bashed Shadow repeatedly against the side of the mountain.
Shadow using what strength he had left garbed on to a cliff and held on for dear life as the Afanc pulled him apart by the tail.
“He won’t last long, unless we do something soon.” Said Voltaren,
“There must be something we can do.” Asked Dawn, then she got an idea
“Master what’s the inside of an Afanc like?”
“Uh… mostly water to keep the body most and some organs are organic. But that dose help use at all.”
“Yes it dose, Shadow has direct contact with its tongue. If we combine our electric attacks we might just have a chance if use Shadow as a lightning rod.”
“But that could kill him.”
“I’ve seen him stuck by lightning he can survive it.”
“IF YOU GOT SOMETHING, HELP ME ALREADY!” shouted Shadow, at the top of his voice in pain.
“Alright well be rid of a problem either way, everyone electrocute the black dragon.” Commanded Voltaren, and nearly at the same time all the able body dragons breathed lightning on Shadow that was unfazed by the attack, but the Afanc was shacking violently before letting go of Shadow. Shadow fell to the ground as the Afanc keeled over.
“SHADOW!” shouted Dawn, as she flue over to him, “Are you ok?”
“Dawn look out!” shouted Shadow, as the Afanc swung its arm at them. Shadow pushed Dawn out of the way before it crushed him.
“No!” said Dawn, as she ran for it,
“Damn it! It wasn’t enough.” cursed Voltaren, as it tried to get up slowly. Then a red light shone with an evil laughter coming from under the arm that crushed Shadow and the Afanc arm hardened and shattered. Shadow re-emerged from the rubble with a blood red aura and eyes. The Afanc struggled to get away, but Shadow released a big burst of fire that engulfed the Afanc.  It screamed as it hardened and cracked under the heat until it stoped moving. The flames ceased to reveal a petrified Afanc, Shadow jumped on it with great force and shattered the Afanc’s body in to pieces like broken pottery.
“By the Ancestors! He did it!” said Voltaren, not believing what he just saw as Shadow collapsed onto grounded.

*******

Shadow awoke in Dawn’s room, his body was sore. “Shadow, are you ok?” said Dawn, as she entered the room caring a bag.
“Sore, but I feel much better knowing I destroying that Afanc.” He replied, as he cracked his bones and metal body as he stretched.
“You’ve been asleep all day, now eat these.” She said, and gave him some green and red crystal pieces from the bag, “The red ones will heal your body, and the green ones will restore your energy for your breaths.”
Shadow ate them, they tasted sweet in his mouth and his body stared to feel better.
“Thanks for being so kind to me, Dawn.” He said, as he ate some more crystals.
“You save everyone, it’s the least we can do.” She said, as Voltaren entered the room with a worried look on his face.
“I have examined the remains of Afanc, it was magically created with ancient magic and it bares the mark of Verlyn.” Said Voltaren,
“So who is he?” asked Shadow, as he sat up,
“We don’t know much about him except he’s a copy cat of the original Verlyn.” Replied Dawn, which made no sense to Shadow,
“Yes, he turned up 5 years before Dawn was born and started this sort of war on dragon kind. The first Verlyn was not know very well but he was an apprentice of magic to the Dark Master over seven thousand years ago and unlikely the one and the same.” Said Voltaren,
“So what dose he want? Destroying stuff sounds fun but there must be a motive?” Asked Shadow,
“He wants to kill me.” Said Dawn, “So he can take over the realms of this world, he managed to kill the purple dragon that came before me.”
“And Verlyn is using magic that hasn’t been used in cemeteries. Knower days we have next to no use for magic due to not everyone can use it. So he must have knowledge of the originals work.” Said Voltaren, sounding worried,
“Hmmm… Dawn, I want to join you and help you on your journey.” Said Shadow, sounding very determined,
“No I couldn’t ask you such a thing from you, you done so much already.” Replied Dawn, surprised of how enthusiastic Shadow was about it,
“Dawn I have no where I can go nor do I know what to do, besides I want to learn all the elements now.” Said Shadow, and held out his paw, “What you say we stop this Verlyn together?”
“Well Dawn it would be safer to have him around to watch your back as you travel.” Said Voltaren,
Dawn hesitated then she shook his paw and said, “OK Shadow, you can come with me, but just because I want to return the favour.”
“Good you two can finish your training, and then you can head off to the next temple. I’ll send word to the other temples of Shadow, that there’s hope for the black dragons.” Finished Voltaren,

*******

Meanwhile in a dark place, the black dragon that attacked Dawn came before a thrown, “Master Verlyn, the Afanc has been slain by a traitor of our black brethren.” He said, as he bowed to the dark figure concealed by shadows,
“What? It’s imposable that one dragon could defeat the creature.” Replied Verlin, “What about the purple dragon is she dead.”
“Forgive me but no. She was saved buy the traitor.”
“NO! I can’t finish my work until she is dead! Go and find her NOW! AND DO NOT FAIL!” shouted Verlyn, as he shot the black dragon with a magical blast of energy, that chased him out of the room.
