Chapter 2: Cold as Ice
Out side of the electricity temple a week later.
“Well I have taught you everything that you need to know.” Said Voltaren, “Just keep training and develop new skills as you two travel.”
“Thank you for teaching us, master Voltaren.” Said Dawn, as she bowed,
“Same here.” Said Shadow, doing the same,
“Now before you leave for the water temple I should say that news doesn’t get there often due to they are isolated. So Shadow you will be having the same trouble with trust again.” Said Voltaren,
“We’ll work out something when we get there, zya Voltaren.” Said Shadow,
“Good bye, master.” Said Dawn, before they started to walk away,
“Good bye and may the ancestors watch over you.” Said Voltaren, as he and some of the students waved good bye, “May the ancestors watch over all off us.”

Days latter Shadow and Dawn were gliding over forest near a cliff over looking the ocean, miles away form the mountain of the electricity temple that they hardly can see it any more.   
“Shadow, let’s land my wings are getting tyred, we’ve been flying all day.” Said Dawn
“Fine let’s land down the.” Said Shadow, as he pointed and they descended to the ground and landed.
“OK the water temple is another day’s flight south.” Said Dawn, as she stretched her wings,
“So we’ll stay here for tonight and builded your strength for flying.”
“What? And you could’ve gone none stop?” she asked,
“Yes I could, and so can you if work out more.” Replied Shadow, and she gave him an unhappy look, “So do want me to clear some trees and start fire or go and find something to eat, Dawn?”
“I find the food, since I need the exercise. Humph.” Said Dawn, and left with her head held up high.
“Oh I didn’t mean to say anything offending.” He shouted, as he grabbed a tree and pulled it out of the ground.

20 trees later, Shadow had made a clearing and dug a fire pit. Shadow was cutting up the trees with his axe blade on his wings. Unaware to Shadow something was hiding and watching him in the trees. And suddenly an arrow came fly that hit and deflected off the back of Shadow’s metal head.
“Owe! What the hell…?” he said, as he turned to see what shot him when something jumped on his face, “Hey get off! I can’t see!” he stumbled around trying to shake it off, but it held on tight and was stabbing Shadow in the head doing little damage.
“Your starting to give me a headache!” now trying to grab it with his tail clamp with little success, when suddenly “ARH!” Shadow tripped and fell in the fire pit.
“Oh, you’re good.” The thing that jumped on his face, was a male grey wolf dressed in brown hunting robes patched with different animal skins carrying a bow on his back and holding a hunting knife.
“Mmmm… I almost can taste the meat.” the wolf said as walked up to Shadow with hunger in his eyes.
“Before you try to fricassee me. You might like to try that boar.”
“You think I’m that stupid?”
“Oh I thought that boar flying towards you was as proof enough.”
The Wolf looked around and *WHACK!* a dead boar thrown by Dawn hit and knocked him out.
“Nice throw Dawn.” Said Shadow, as he got up “So what took you so long?” Dawn emerged from the tree with two boars hanging from her mouth, and then she dropped them.
“They are not easy to catch when they can run and hid in a tight forest.” Said Dawn, having a closer look at the wolf,
“Well you can remove his effects and tie him up. I’ll get diner started.”
“Why? He tried to kill you, we should eat him.”
“He was just hungry. Hunger can make you do crazy things, I read in a book back the temple. Besides I think he can be some use to use on our journey.”

A while later the wolf woke up, “Owe, what hit me? More to the question where the hell are my cloths?!?” he said, he found himself disarmed, feet tied up and only wearing an loincloth. He looked around and saw the two dragons eating a boar each and Shadow was cooking a third one rotisserie stile by holding the boar in his tail clamp over the fire.
“Why have you kept me alive, black dragon.” Asked the wolf,
“First I’ am not that kind if dragon. Second I know what hunger can do to an animal.” Replied Shadow, and dropped the boar he was cook in front of him.
“What are you playing at, is this some kind of toucher?”
“No it’s pity for a starving dog, that’s why we didn’t bind your hands.” Said Dawn, and the wolf started to eat very measly.
“So what’s your name, and what are doing in this neck of the woods?” asked Shadow,
“Zero Okami, top hunter and amateur worrier of Wulfgar. Good food. And I have been banished from my clan.” He said with a mouth full of meat.
“So what did you do to get kicked out?”
“Well rather not say.” Said Zero, now covered with blood and meat.
“Right….” Said Dawn, getting rather suspicious about him,
“Hey dragon lady, how come you’re with this black dragon?”
“He’s not like the other black dragons; he’s the reincarnation of Ashkore.”
“Yep or so they tell me.” Said Shadow, as he picked his teeth with a boar bone.
“Really, my grandpa use to tell me stories of him when I was a cub. So any way I’ve left my clan and I’ am never able to go home.”
“So what are you going to do?” asked Dawn,
“Don’t know… after staving for 3 day, with out arrows to hunt with. Probably just find the closest settlement and get a job. Then find the perfect mate for me.” Replied Zero, “Say you’re that purple dragoness that’s everyone talking about, right?”
“Yes, so?”
“Your travelling all over the realms to learn the elements, right?”
“What are you getting at?” said Dawn, now getting angry.
“Can I come with you two?”
“OK.” Said Shadow,
“What? He tried to kill you?” sounding shocked,
“So? I can’t sense that he’s bad. Besides he can help us hunt for food.”
“How can we trust him?”
“You trusted me, didn’t you?” there was a pause then,
“Oooo, it’s not the same… fine but he’s your responsibility. Or I’ll eat him.” She said, and stomps off angrily,
“Hey what’s your problem, Dawn?”

“Probably she doesn’t want to make new friends that she might lose.” Said Zero, as he licking his fur clean from diner,
“What suppose to mean?” asked Shadow, as he cut Zero free with a claw,
“Well I don’t know much about your kind, but some purple dragons have lost everything just be cause of there destiny.” Replied Zero,
“So Dawn doesn’t want get emotionally attached to anyone?”
“Yes, but like I sad I don’t know that much. Can I have my effects back, its cold?”

Next morning Shadow was the first to wake up, Zero was stile asleep in a hammock suspended between two trees and Dawn was sleeping behind some trees.
“Zero get up we have to get ready to leave.” Said Shadow,
“Zzz…But mom I don’t want to go to grandma’s house…zzz….” Zero said in his sleep, and tossed over. Shadow then pulled at the rope and undid the knot, which brought him crashing down onto the ground. “Ow, I’m up, I’m up.”
“I’ am going to wake up Dawn, while you get ready to go.”

“Dawn it’s time to go.” Said Shadow, as he walked up behind her,
“No, I don’t want to leave you or mother, father. I stile need you!” said Dawn, in her nightmarish sleep.
“Hey Dawn…” Shadow said, as he put his hand on Dawn’s shoulder to wake her,
“YAAARRHH!” screamed Dawn, as she grabbed Shadow’s arm and thrown him on to his back, then she pounced on him, “You killed them.” She said, and went to bite him in neck, but Shadow moved his arm in the way so she bit on his metal arm.
“Dawn! It’s me, Shadow!” Shadow shouted at her, then she realised what she was doing and let go.
“I’ am sorry I was having a nightmare, and you shouldn’t have done that.” Said Dawn,
“Hey what’s going… oh… want me to leave you two alone?” Zero said when he came to see what the up raw was about. Dawn suddenly released what he meant and blushed.
“No, no, no, I always take him when he wakes me up to early.” Said Dawn, getting off Shadow as quickly as possible.
“OK. Well I’ am ready to go.”
“Right, I just need to do something first.” Said Dawn, then she left them. “Shadow if we’re flying you don’t mind if I ride on your back?” asked Zero, Shadow flipped over,
“Sure, hop on.” Replied Shadow, then Zero climbed on his back and tied his back pack on to Shadow.
“Just you know I would have left you alone.”
“We are not a couple if you’re implying. We’re just friends for the moment.”
“OK, anyway why are you not like the other black dragons?”
“Because I choose not to be like them.”

Later that day the two dragons were soaring over the ocean with Zero riding on Shadows back.
“So where are we going? It’s getting cold.” Shouted Zero,
“Were going to the southern reacher of the realms to the frozen lands.” replied Dawn, pointing at the icebergs below them,
“Well so much for hot girls in swimsuits.”
“You know I’ am get the idea, on how you got kicked out of your clan, Zero.” Said Shadow, as they went down to land on the frozen wasteland,
“So where do we go from here?” asked Zero, as he pulled out a cloak from his bag and wrapped up tight,
“From what Voltaren told us the water temple is under the ice, there should be a cave leading to the temple.” Said Dawn, as she stretch out her wings and folded them up,
“The cave is marked by two dragon statues with symbols of water and ice.” Said Shadow,
“So how are we supposed to find these things under a tone of snow and ice?” asked Zero, as he shivered in his cloak and both Shadow and Dawn stared at him with a smile, “Right, no problem for two fire breathing dragons. You two can just melt it all.”
And with that they started to use there flame, along the side the side of the mountains of snow ice.

Meanwhile on an icy ledge, three black dragons covered in snow watching them,
“Look’s like she’s got her self a pet. It will make a change from sea food.” Said the dark blue one,
“Ya, but that traitor might cause some problems. You know what he did to the Afanc.” Said the dark red one,
“Atchue!” Said the dark yellow one who was shivering,
“Shush!” said both the dark blue and red,
“I know the avalanches. *Sniff* I’ll kill the idiot that sent me here?” said the dark yellow dragon,
“Ya, no place for an electric dragon like you.” Said the dark red dragon,
“What I would give to be a fire or a water dragon right now. You guys have no problem with the cold.” Shivered the yellow dragon,
“Then go and follow them, that will warm you up.” Said the dark blue one,
“If were luck you can kill them with one of your sneezes.”
“Ya, an avalanche could solve our problems. And we just have to dig out and bring back the dragoness’ body to Verlin.” Said the dark red one,

After awhile they found the two stone dragon statues, and Zero was rustling in his bag for a torch.
“A much I’ll hate it, but I recommend you shouldn’t use your fire. Can you lite this please.” Said Zero, hold up his torch that Shadow lit it with his flame breath,
“Why not? You got that torch.” Dawn asked, getting suspicious of him,
“But I dough that little thing will melt the roof over our heads or cause an frozen cave in. Or you rather be an Dragonsical” Shadow replied wittily, and there was a short silence,
“Zero you go in first and scout out ten meters ahead, we’ll be right behind you.” Said Shadow, and Zero when in first. Shortly Dawn and Shadow followed, it was very dark but there eyes adjusted to they could see in the dark.
“So what’s up with you?” asked Shadow, walking beside her,
“Nothing, I just don‘t trust him.” Replied Dawn,
“If it makes you feel better, I talked with him last night. He’s not bad we had a few laughs.”
“He could be lying, he could be working for the black dragons, Shadow.”
“Or you rather leave a stranger, then lose a friend.” Asked Shadow, then she stoped and looked at him,
“I’ve lost my friends and nearly all my family, just because I’ am a rare dragon. I hate that feeling of death around me.” Said Dawn angrily,
*ACHUTE!* the sneeze echoed, down the cave and the place shook as it caved in.
“Run!” shouted Dawn, but it was too late.

When it stoped Dawn and Shadow found them selves trapped in air pocket.
“Some one must have been flowing us.” Said Shadow, brushing the ice of himself.
“I can handle this.” Dawn said as she got ready to use her flame breath.
“HOLD IT!” Shouted Shadow, clamping her mouth shut with his hand,
“If you use you use your fire you’ll just will bring more snow and ice down upon or we could drown, besides there no way to vent the exes heat.”
“Then what are we suppose to do?” asked Dawn,
“Dig.” Replied Shadow, and started to digging and Dawn shortly joined in.

Meanwhile at the entrance the three black dragons were digging there way out of the cave.
“*Sniff* Well that could of gone better.” Said the dark yellow dragon,
“Ya, but look at the bright side well did it.” Said the dark red dragon,
“Now we can just need to call in the troops and we got the temple.” Said the dark blue dragon.
“I volunteer! Anything to get out of here. *Sniff*” said the dark yellow dragon, and before the other two could say any thing he was gone, flying at top speed,
“Look at him go. Let have a rest before we have to dig out the body.” Said the dark blue dragon, lying back on the snow,
“Ya, I’m with that brother.” Said the dark red dragon, as he stretched out.

Hours later Shadow and Dawn were still digging. “I can dig anymore, it’s so cold.” Said Dawn tiredly, her hands numb from the cold snow, “I need some sleep.”
“Fine I need some rest as well.” replied Shadow, as the settled down,
“Shadow lay down next to me. If we share our body heat we might live thought this.” said Dawn, and when Shadow got closer she felt surprisingly that his metal skin was very warm,
“How are you staying to warm with your metal skin?” she asked,
“I’ve been using a little of my flame in my throat, but I think that was not a good idea. It’s using up my energy.” Said Shadow, as he put his wing over her,
“So I wanted to know something?” he asked,
“What is it?”
“Why did you let me go with you?” there was a short pause,
“Because when I saw you get beaten up by the Afanc, and that you came out barely hurt. I though I found someone that wouldn’t die any time soon.”
“So you didn’t want to go it alone.”
“Uh-ha, since my parents die I tried to isolate my self as much possible. But I got new hope when I met you.”
“How sure that I’ll be around long?”
“Cause Ashkore lived for a thousand years, with life threatening odds for his home.”
“Then I’ll stay with you as long as you live. Makes its easier when you can share the burden.”
Then she kissed his cheek,
“Thank you for the talk, Shadow.”
And soon they fell a sleep.

Much later, Shadow and Dawn were stile sleeping when suddenly the hole they were digging suddenly burst open.
“We found them.” Said a blue dragon, as he walked in with other blue dragons.
“The little wolfman was right she here with a black dragon. And there still alive, barely.” Said one, as he checked them,
“Get her out here and leave him.” Said another, they tried to mover her but she didn’t budge.
“Huh, this black dragon is made of metal.” He said,
“And his metal skin is frozen to her skin. These black dragons are devious.” She said, walking to the hole, “We need more help.”
And shortly they had gotten them out and closed up the hole.

Meanwhile on the outside of the cave and a blizzard was raging on, “How bloody far did they go?” asked the dark blue dragon, coming out of the cave where the dark red warming his hands with his flames.
“I have no idea, but if we don’t find her we’re sushi.” said the dark red dragon,
“With or with out soy sauce?” said some one in the dark,
“Master Verlin, we didn’t think you would coming personally?” said the dark blue one, as they bowed before him,
“I thought why not take a winter holiday and destroy this temple.” Said Verlin, hiding in the shadows, “Now did you find Dawn?”
“No not yet, maybe a half a day longer.” Said the dark red one,
“Well continue on, when your finished. Go to the secret location. If she’s dead or alive were going to attack the water temple and sink it for good. Mwahahah” Said Verlin, then he disappeared in to the blizzard.
“He’s getting creeper.” Said the dark red one, getting up for his shift,
“What you expect? He’s not dragon.” Said the dark blue one.
